The latest in popular sneakers? South Dakota’s expansive shopping malls and outlets have you more than covered. Here are the 10 best in the state.   

The Empire Mall, Sioux Falls, SD

With over 140 specialty shops as well as the many dining choices, the Empire Mall in Sioux Falls has a store fit for everyone’s needs and tastes. The mall has an astounding 1,300,000 square-feet of retail space and includes anchor stores like JCPenney, Macy’s, Seats, and Dick’s Sporting Goods. The mall serves as something of a town gathering place and hotspot, attracting more than seven million visitors annually. There are plenty of stops in the food court to curb your hunger, like at one of the fast food joints of at one of the sit down restaurants like Red Robin, Red Lobster, or Applebees. The mall is easily located off of I-29, making it a convenient stop for travelers and tourists.

Watertown Mall, Watertown, SD

The Watertown Mall is a favorite retail experience among locals and tourists alike. The huge mall has over 45 merchants, from apparel to gifts to beauty and health to restaurants and specialty shops galore! Some of the mall’s bigger stores include Maurices, Hy Vee Supermarket, and Herberger’s. Whether shopping at any number of stores, eating delicious food, or just walking around the lively mall, there is always something to do at the Watertown Mall!  

Aberdeen Mall, Aberdeen, SD

The Aberdeen Mall is always a popular hangout spot, due to the multitude of stores, cinemas, and the tantalizing food court. The mall houses over 30 stores, a vintage arcade with more than 15 games, and plenty of specialty stores. The Aberdeen Mall is conveniently located on East Highway 12 across from the Target store.

Rushmore Mall, Rapid City, SD

Residents from across western South Dakota, Wyoming, and Nebraska head to the Rushmore Mall for the best shopping experience in the tri-state area! Whether watching a movie at the AMC, shopping at one of the many boutiques, chowing down on a huge variety of food court grub, do some errands at the DMV, or relax at the Dead Sea Spa, there is truly something for everyone at this shopping mall! The Western Mall, Sioux Falls, SD

Sioux Falls has no shortage of great malls, and The Western Mall is no exception! This sprawling and spacious mall has a movie theater, Sheels, Best Buy, salons, furniture stores, clothing and apparel stores, a fabric shop, and both locally owned and fast food chain restaurants. One of the mall’s main draws is the West Mall 7 Theaters, a clean and affordable cinema experience with all the latest Hollywood flicks.

Rushmore Crossing, Rapid City, SD

A fairly recent addition to the city, Rushmore Crossing is an incredibly popular outlet mall that has quickly become one of the best shopping experiences in the area. The outlet includes department stores like Target and Gordmans, specialty apparel, jewelers, shoe stores, health and beauty, sporting goods like Scheel’s, and plenty of restaurants.  

Village Square Mall, Brookings, SD
