Imagine the frustration of 1878 Miners, hotly pursuing a promising quartz vein deep into the canyon wall with hand drills, blasted with black gun powder...when suddenly tons of icy water came pouring down into the gold mining tunnel at the rate of 8 cubic feet per second.
This historic old gold mine is the oldest gold mine open to the public in the Black Hills area. The easy walk along the rushing underground stream is a delightful experience for both young and old. Electric lighting accentuates the natural colors of the mineralized formations.

7-25-16: CLOSED!!! What?! Yes. Signage all along the roads, only to find that the whole thing is closed up and over grown. Super bummed...was a fun memory from a previous trip 6 years ago.
Great, underground waterfall. Don't miss it!
was there 7-16-2016 CLOSED signs everywhere directing to the place and a sign at entrance "CLOSED" .....what a waste of my time to get there to see it CLOSED
Absolutely stunning scenery!

My Girl Scouts chose this from the online description weeks before our trip. We were terribly disappointed! They were a cash only operation that took our check only reluctantly. The "600" foot waterfall could only be seen for 40 feet. And there was very little information. Don't waste the trip!
