Palisades State Park is one of the most unique areas in South Dakota. Split Rock Creek, which flows through the park, is lined with Sioux quartzite formations varying from shelves several feet above the water to 50-foot vertical cliffs. Scenic overlooks and rushing water make Palisades a popular getaway. The park is popular among campers, photographers, sightseers, picnickers, rock climbers and hikers.

We stayed at the Palisades Lodge just outside of Garretson. The lodge was great. Our only complaint is that every bed in the lodge is absolutely terrible. They must have picked them up from a prison sale. The beds were very very very hard and many of us woke up hurting. 2 people actually chose to move out to the couch in the middle of the night because of the bed comfort. I recommend bringing a memory foam topper if you plan on sleeping on the beds. The lodge itself is great though. Lots of room, beautiful views, great property. Just PLEASE get rid of those beds! The beds are the only thing that would have us think twice about renting the lodge.

We stopped in on July 4th without a reservation and they were able to find us a spot to stay. It's a nice park and the sites have a reasonable amount of privacy. There are a couple of nice hiking trails and the river that runs through the camp looks like it would be fun to go tubing on. There are vault toilets around the park and one comfort station in the middle.

I just loved it. Never thought this will turned into a hidden gem. The park has so much to offer. We had short hikes. We did our first camping there. The restrooms and showers were clean. Very happy with everything.

One of my favorite places to camp. Pretty views and shady spots. Staff are friendly and have nice activities planned for the kids.

This park is located along Split Rock Creek. We stayed at the group cabin. Very nice cabin that easily slept 10 people. 2 bathrooms and fully furnished kitchen. Also included a garage which we used as a meeting room. The back deck over looked the Split Rock Creek. Many parking spots in front of cabin only for group cabin. Hopefully will stay again.
