Palisades State Park

25495 485th Avenue

Palisades State Park is one of the most unique areas in South Dakota. Split Rock Creek, which flows through the park, is lined with Sioux quartzite formations varying from shelves several feet above the water to 50-foot vertical cliffs. Scenic overlooks and rushing water make Palisades a popular getaway. The park is popular among campers, photographers, sightseers, picnickers, rock climbers and hikers.

This park is located along Split Rock Creek. We stayed at the group cabin. Very nice cabin that easily slept 10 people. 2 bathrooms and fully furnished kitchen. Also included a garage which we used as a meeting room. The back deck over looked the Split Rock Creek. Many parking spots in front of cabin only for group cabin. Hopefully will stay again.

Very nice place to be in. Nice view, lots of small and huge rocks to climb up and view the magnificent creek. Enough parking space and good restrooms. I liked the foot trail that leads to the creek with huge rocks.

Beautiful spot, set a few miles from the main highway. Plenty of sites available, each with their own fire pits. We visited in mid Oct, so the fall colors were going strong. There is a small creek running through the campground, with a larger river surrounding the park. Lots of grass and trees providing privacy for each spot. There are a couple vault toilet restrooms, as well as a main shower and restroom building, nothing fancy, but plenty to grab a shower before getting back on the road. While taking a stroll through the park, we saw a nice playground area. We had made a reservation months in advance, with no problem getting into the park.
