Exhibit - Face To Face: #selfie
Throughout the course of art history, self-portraiture and the portrait of another have remained a tried-and-true practice among leading artists. Transcending technique and style, self-portrayals are prevalent in every major movement, from the inspired Italian Renaissance to the Postmodern and Contemporary period.
This exhibition asks us to look back into those faces presented by art history and hopefully find ourselves present in the work. Our humanity binds us to the practice of reproducing the thing we are most familiar with: ourselves. To illustrate the prevalence of these depictions, we have compiled a collection of works from our permanent collection illustrating just that.
